In 2014, the Ottawa Treaty banning landmines had its Third Review Conference – Commit to Complete – in Maputo, Mozambique (June 23 – 27). The Treaty is now 16 years old. It has proven to be a very effective life-saving treaty, and it is here to stay!
Everyone’s support is needed along the road to a mine-free world — large or small, mine affected or not. But everyone is not on board. 162 countries have joined the Ottawa/ Mine Ban Treaty to date. This means there are still 35 countries left outside the Treaty.
Waiting will achieve nothing. We, at Mines Action Canada, have collected some information about these dirty thirty-five non-party states and where they stand on the Treaty issue, and how to contact them. Join us, reach out to them. Call them into action!
